Introducing Alice

Ladies and Gentlemen, my first computer build, and I have to say that I’m proud of myself:

For quite a long time, I wanted my next computer to be a build, where I put into the computer the stuff I know I need, that can easily get me back into streaming–which was my goal for some time now–as well as provide room for upgrading–which the previous HP build didn’t provide; buy cheap get cheap–which will come in the future.

So for my birthday, I went over to Micro Center to get the parts.  Micro Center is a way away for me, it’s at Brentwood across St. Louis from where I live, but it’s well worth it because you will never find a  better place to get a computer.  Not only does it have the most expansive assortment of electronics to buy, but it also has the Build Your Own Department in the back.  Where the real good stuff is.  Some say that the service isn’t the best in the world, but the selection is second only to online stores.

It also didn’t take me too long to make the build.  All I needed was two hours, a Phillips screwdriver, and a couple Youtube videos.

It’s not perfect yet, but right now I’m happy with “Alice.”  I need to get a power splitter for the optical drive, the cables from the power brick could be wrangled better, and I’d really like to have a separate graphics card, in there.  But I got Alice up and running, and that’s good enough for now.  There’s always room for improvement from here, and of course, I can get back to streaming my sessions on Twitch.

(Oh, by the way, I am naming my builds after Disney Princesses, starting with Alice…oh stop nit picking…I hope that, before I die, I get to Tiana)

Current Configuration of Alice:

  • Logisys Case with bundled 480W Power Brick
  • Asus H110M-a/M.2 Motherboard
  • Intel Core i3 CPU with Stock Fan
  • Kingston DDR4 8 Gigs of RAM
  • Scandisk 120G Solid State Drive (for the OS)
  • Barracuda 1T Hard Disk Drive (for Work Files, spare programs, Multiple Gig games and moving as much of the OS work files from the SSD as possible.)
  • An older 700G HDD for File History
  • An older Optical Drive (needs a Power Connection)
  • Blue LCD fan on back to go with the Red LCD fan on the front. (?)

Possible Improvements for Alice:

  • Intel Core i5 or i7 Processor. The Motherboard will accept them.
  • Liquid Cooling
  • an SATA Power Splitter for the Optical Drive
  • 8 more Gigs of RAM
  • A Third Case Fan (will require a power splitter cable)
  • More USB 3.0 ports
  • A better Web Camera
  • A better Microphone
  • Better Wire Management (more possible with the cable extensions)
  • Light up the Inside more!  I want people to see what I did!
